Brodgar & Stennes

Two monuments for the price of one
Between them the Ring of Brodgar and the Stennes Stones are the designer monuments of the neolithic age.
Sleek, tall and perfectly positioned, they must have been a spectacular sight when they were first unveiled. They interact with the surrounding landscape in such a dramatic way that there can be no doubting this as an expression of human power.
Whether this was a display of power or an attempt to attract power from elsewhere (or both), only the designers and builders can tell. These are so much more than just slabs of stone, there is real artistry here.
